I got some terrible news tonight

My mother called me to tell me that my cousin was found dead in his apartment this morning.

There aren't any details. I guess the police are performing an autopsy to determine cause of death. Apparently, the cause is just not obvious.

He's led a pretty wild life. I know that he has done drugs in the past. I also know that he has had terrible trouble with his neck and back and that he took a lot of pain meds for that. He drove like a maniac. He was always looking for somewhere to travel to, even when he didn't have the money to go.

A couple of years back he broke up w/ a partner of 9 years and ended up filing a palimony suit. He got a settlement.

Again, I have no idea if there was foul play or not.

My cousin was just a couple of days younger than I.

I didn't always understand him, but he was very good about keeping in touch w/ me. Sometimes it was hard to hear from him because his life just seemed so "far out" from what mine is. But, it was always good to feel like he cared about me--and he did, otherwise he wouldn't have kept in touch. I cared for him very much too. I always hoped that he would find something for his life that would take away his need for such a wild lifestyle. I only hope that... oh hell, I don't know what to hope for. He's gone. It's so sad.
