Good News At The Bank!
Advertisements [?]
I had a problem with my third bank. It was, completely admitting to it, my fault originally.

I used a debit card on this account. The account is both a savings and a checking account. When i made the purchase at 1:30 in the afternoon, i KNEW i didn't have the money in the checking account to cover the purchase. I don't deny that. However, when i got back into town at 2:30pm, i went to the ATM and transferred money from savings to checking.

Well, it turns out that 2pm is the cutoff time, and i didn't know it. So, the account "overdrafted" because the transfer didn't count until the next morning. So, they charged me a $33 fee for overdrafting. This despite the fact that there was more than 10 times the money in the savings account at the same bank.

Well, i didn't know this! So, a week goes by. Then another week. Then another week. I get a statement and it looks wrong! Yesterday we get a call that we have an oustanding overdraft, and that's despite the fact that the expenditure was covered! Turns out that since the fee wasn't covered, i'm overdrafted for 3 weeks.

On top of this original fee, they add another $33 per week! So, now i'm mad and was going to close the accounts and go somewhere else. But, i was very matter of fact and didn't throw a fit or anything.

The branch manager says, "Will you keep the account open if i waive the fees?" Well, of course, i said yes! So, she knocks the $132 in fees off, and whole problem goes away.

That's pretty good customer service. She agreed with me that $132 is pretty steep for a mistake that lasted a half-hour. Now i'm happy.
