I had two uncles serve in WWII. Neither one came back. One is burried in France, the other in Belgium.

I had one uncle on the other side of the family drafted during Vietnam. He was functionally illiterate, but they still took him and turned him into a "model soldier". He served 1 1/2 tours-- he was pulled from his second tour when he started acting strangely-- collecting "trophies" from his kills, and exhibiting other anti-social behavior.

The war ruined his life. He came back to the US and never had another sober day in his life. He died of alcoholism two years ago, in a small trailer he parked on his brother's farm. He left a couple kids and an ex-wife behind.

That's one of the reasons why I am a pacifist and conscientious objector, and have been since I was a child.
