For the life of me, I cannot understand why people think that the Oscars are about we, the people.
We don't criticize the Garden club members when they vote for the best garden of the year, and feel that WE have the right to question their judgment, do we??? HOW could they have chosen Mrs. Kerfiddlefaddle's ROSE garden, when clearly Mr. Loopapa's wildflower and ivy display was SO MUCH BETTER?? Clearly, they DISCRIMINATED against those who prefer wildflowers!! Time to take to the streets in PROTEST!!!!!!!!
The members of the Academy are the voters--not US. Ya wanna make your case??? That's what the People's Choice awards are for.
The academy members are a professional group, voting for the people that THEY feel did the best job.
It ain't ABOUT us!!! We just sit back and enjoy the spectacle--it is a window into their little club, and we have nothing to do with it beyond making snarky comments about how they run their event. And those who don't enjoy it can stretch out their arm, and grab the damn remote. It's not like the days when we didn't have options--three channels, and if ya lived in the boonies, ya might be able to get two of them on a clear night!!!
I get a kick out of the Oscars; half the time I haven't seen all the films, but I enjoy the nonsense, the live TV aspect, the horrible speeches, the entire pageantry of the thing. Plus, it is a great excuse for a no-stress annual party with like-minded friends in the dead of winter.
