24. My cat, Toots, was plucked from the side of a brick building she
was climbing to get back into the eaves where she had been born. My daughter worked in the building and took her home and had to keep her in a pet cage because she was so wild (the kitten, not my daughter). After a couple of days, she decided to let her out of the cage but keep her confined to the bathroom until she was a little more tame. Unfortunately, Toots was able to pull the cover off the A/C vent and fell down into the ductwork and there was no way to get her out. My daughter was frantic and pulled the covers off of several floor vents and dropped bath towels into the ductwork hoping that kitty would climb out. No luck there. My son-in-law wound up going under the house and disconnecting a section of the ductwork so the kitty could get out. For 2 or 3 weeks the grandchildren would crawl under the house twice a day to take food and water. Eventually, they were able to catch her in a humane trap and she wound up going home with me. It took some time to tame her, but she has turned out to be a sweet little cat, although she is still quite spirited.

My dog, Sapphire, was a spur of the moment decision. My friend and I were visiting a cousin of hers when this cute little white puppy with blue eyes wandered over from the house next door. She was so friendly and sweet natured that I fell in love at first sight. Since they had a yard full of dogs, I went over to see if they were trying to find a home for the puppy and they were. She has turned out to be just a lovely little dog.
