30. My First Car was a Truck

My First Car Was A Truck

At 16, a gift (?) from my dad. A Ford.
Model year: 1960. Body style: F-100.
Originally from Tennessee. A bootlegger's wheels.
Painted with green housepaint, applied with a roller.
Ugly. Distinctive. Beautiful. Mine.
No seat. No muffler. No brakes. No Problem.
Missing two windows and one door.
Weld some new steel. Add some bondo. Paint it black.
New interior. New tires. New stereo. Tune it up. Cruise.

Weekends: pick up Anita (14, tall, blond, built for speed).
Stop at Foremost for a fifth of Southern Comfort.
Hanging out at the 7-11, necking on the tailgate.
Way Cool. Still Young. Drunk with love.

Do you know Paul?
No.
Yeah, you know, the guy with the old truck?
With the Blond?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah I know him.

That truck was something.
I was somebody.
I sold it to buy a guitar.

********************

Along with the guitar, I bought one of these too: 1965 Impala Super Sport
