Low-tech Bug-zappers!

OK, so my owners furry kids managed to knock the screen out of the window, thereby creating (so they think) another door.
Fixing that tomorrow, and going to try something I read in Heloise...or maybe it was Dear Ann Landers?...about putting Vix Vapo Rub on the screen to discourage the little monsters darlings from trying to claw at it.
Will let you know how that goes...

BUT- thanks to the screenless window, I've a house just zipping with winged bugs...flying ants, skeeters, houseflies, little no-see-ums..:grr: and the spiders all seem to be off-duty.

Remembered something advised way back when we were hit with an ENORMOUS hatch of miller moths on how to cope with this.
Got a fairly wide, shallow bowl, put some water and just a little dish soap in it...
then put it under light that's in the stove. All other lights in the kitchen out.
Got another one, put it under the reading lamp I was using in the living room.
Ten minutes later- wow, where'd all the bugs go?
Swimming, that's where...
and the soap changes the surface tension of the water so they can't get out.

The one in the kitchen...:wow: didn't realize that many bugs had gotten into the house!
:yoiks:
