26. anti-government and fiscal conservatism do not seem
progressive to me. However, a good portion of DU does not think I am progressive either. As a social liberal, you will probably fit right in, and GD often seems to hate Democrats even more than it hates Republicans.

Americans waste all kinds of money on useless sh*t, or even worse than useless - harmful sh*t. Look at how many are willing to shell out money for cigarettes and booze. Lottery tickets too.

Name something the government does well. Isn't that a classic Rush Limbaugh line? You should read more Franken, starting with "Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot". On page 14 he asks a number of conservatives to name something the Government has done well. They said - rural electrification, the interstate highway system, disseminating safety and health information, youth summer jobs program, public libraries, the GI bill, FDIC, head start, food stamps, the National Park system, the FAA, lighthouses, etc.

Nothing it does is perfect, but that does not make it useless, except when Republican crooks are corrupting it.
