Favre to report to Packers training camp

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Brett Favre retirement/unretirement saga apparently took another turn on Friday, with the report that, despite prior indications from the Packers that they would like him to remain retired, Favre plans on applying for reinstatement and reporting to camp with the club.

The NFL Network reported Friday that the currently retired Favre plans to submit a letter to the league applying for reinstatement as soon as possible. According to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network, Favre told Thompson of his plans during a telephone conversation on Thursday. The veteran QB plans on faxing a letter seeking reinstatement to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as early as Friday, prior to the opening of training camp for the Packers on Saturday.

Schefter's story made it sound like, despite all indications otherwise, the Thompson and the Packers have come to the conclusion that they are better off with Favre under center, which would again relegate Aaron Rodgers to backup duty.
