48. We have twelve indoor kitties
Twelve is the end. We had four cats and then a cat moved under the outside stairwell. She had kittens about four times.

The kittens were easy to catch in the trap. We didn't catch all of the kittens but we got most of them, nine in total. One kitten was caught by the downstairs neighbor and one went to my partners Mother. We kept the other seven.

The Mother cat was not going to get caught in the trap. So I would spend time with her every night, going from just a sniff of my hand to eventually petting her and then having her lay down outside with me. One day I just opened the outside door all the way and layed down on the kitchen floor with a bowl of milk and she walked in and I slowly closed the door.

All but one of the cats are tame. There is one cat (StinkerButt) that is too skittish. We broke a rule with her. When we first would catch them we kept them in a large cage. They were naturally scared and didn't want to be around humans. My partner is very good with kittens and would scruff them without showing any fear (unlike me)and when they could be taken out of the cage and purr in a relaxed manner they would slowly get access to outside the cage. We let StinkerButt out too soon. She doesn't come too close to us but will sleep on the bed with us if we are asleep or if her best buddy Lucius is around to protect her.

There usually are only 3 or 4 cats per room. The only time that changes is when I open wet cat food for them then we get about 8 of them at one time. We take them to the vet three at a time. Three of the females still need to be fixed. I can't wait!

I don't think four cats is too many. Twelve can sometimes get on your last nerve.

Thank Jeebus for unscented cat litter!
