here's the story. she just made a down payment on a brand new Honda CRV. very nice. she's a good haggler, too, so she got a decent price on it.
but the problem: she couldn't decide whether she should get the green with tan interior or the black with black interior. green fits her outdoorsy style, is easier to keep clean, less likely to be stolen. but the tan interior = gets dirty, especially carting dogs around all day. OTOH, black looks "cooler," but a black interior gets really hot (again with the dogs), and i'm not convinced it is easier to keep clean. (black interior gets all linty.) so anyways there are plusses and minuses, of course, but it's really no big deal. either way, she's getting a beautiful brand new car, right?
wrong. it turns out this is a really big deal. she stayed up ALL NIGHT last night, flipping back and forth through the CRV brochure, not able to make up her mind.
i tried telling her: either one will be nice. no good.
i tried telling her: flip a coin. she flipped a coin, but didn't like the outcome, then flipped again and again... pretty soon she couldn't remember whether heads meant "green" or vice versa.
then she tried using Viking runestones, which come with a little book that explains what each stone signifies. she found out that it was her "moment to make 180 degree spiritual turn and break through the barriers of negativity that surround her, reconnecting with her Warrior Impulse." unfortunately, nothing about "green with tan interior" or "black with black interior."
now fast-forward to this morning. i have to go to work, she has to call the dealer by 9 to tell them which color she wants. she's had less than 2 hours of sleep, and even that was fitfully dreaming of car color schemes; still can't make up her mind; she's looking desperate!
so desperate times call for desperate measures: i hit upon a new idea. i call it "the dog oracle." i took two different colored dog treats, one green and one black (ok, well, brown, but you get the idea). i put them in front of the dog, equidistant. (she's a good dog, knows how to stay.) then i said, "ok!" and the dog went to the green treat 1st.
she still wasn't that convinced but ended up getting the green. the canine oracle hath spoken!
i know people take car colors seriously, but is that crazy or what?
