Let's say deserted island is 10 sq. miles, uninhabited, lush and green. Coconut palms, banana trees, other tropical fruit, maybe a few wild boar, and fishing and shellfish on a surrounding reef. The deserted oasis is in a remote region of the Sahara never visited by humans, not even desert tribes people. Oasis is 2 square miles. Oasis has date palms, edible root plants, medium sized game birds, fresh water fish. Both have a ready source of fresh water. Let's say in both you crashed there in a airplane, so whatever stuff you have in your baggage and whatever you can salvage is with you. In both situations there absolutely zero chance of rescue from the outside world. If you get out of there you will have to do it on your own. Which would you choose?
