My sis, however, let her issues come between them. She never tried to resolve them, and now she'll never get the chance. But when Mom was still alive, Sis would come to all the family functions, keep in touch, do whatever was necessary to maintain a superficial relationship. Once Mom passed, she stopped bothering. Sadly, because my Dad, who's 87 and has always had Sis's back, never hears from her anymore. My sister doesn't work, she doesn't live that far from Dad, and she never phones him or goes to see him. He's doing well, but he's by himself and would love more company. I know he's hurt by her attitude, but he'll never say anything bad about her to me and shuts me up if I complain.
I don't get it. Why, when you know time is short, would you ignore either parent? Especially if you have time in your own day?
Some people are just selfish, and there's nothing we can do about it, I guess.
