The IQ system was developed by a French psychologist named Alfred Benier, who studied the intellectual development of children and
who created the first IQ test because he felt then-current tests
were inaccurate. The test originally ranked "mental ages," and was
highly subjective and culturally biased.

To this date, no one has ever proved that the IQ actually tests
anything or that such an abstract quality as "intelligence" exists.
Many psychologists argue that there are multiple intelligences,
so that a football player who can't read might have an excellently
defined psychokinetic intelligence (the ability to consciously control
bodily movement in precise fashions) and a low verbal intelligence.
