There was a book about 10 years ago (maybe more) by a guy who had been on several game shows, and won quite a bit of money on "sale of the century". He described the pre-screen process, and how when he did really well on tests they wouldnt pick him. The producers dont want someone to blow away the other contestants. So he would purposely flub answers on the prescreen to get selected.
