15. Some Girls tour, 1978, Masonic Temple in Detroit
I got up turned on the radio during the morning shower, the station said an unannounced Stones concert was going to happen, and tickets had just gone on sale. I drove like hell to a deserted downtown Detroit, except for several thousand people in line in front of Masonic Hall. I thought I was too late, got in line anyways.

I snagged two tickets in the front row of the balcony for $10 apiece. The Temple is set up like an opera house with steep balconies close to the stage. 4400 seats, tiny for the Stones.

They were on an arena tour at the time, doing smaller unannounced dates like this. It was a minimal stage set.

They just came out like a powerhouse. It took about a minute to be in complete awe, which lasted for the rest of the concert.
