106. Whiskey in the Jar (traditional Irish)
Whiskey In The Jar

As I was going over, Kilgary mountain
I met with Captain Farrell, and his money he was counting
I first produced my pistol and I then produced my rapier
Saying stand and deliver for I am a bold deceiver

Chorus:

Whack fol the daddi-o

Whack fol the daddi-o
Whack fol the daddi-o
There’s whiskey in the jar

I counted out his money and it made a pretty penny
I put it in my pocket and I brought it home to Jenny
She signed and she swore that never would deceive me
But the devil take the women for they never can be easy

Chorus

I went into my chamber for all to take a slumber
I dreamt of gold and jewels and sure it was no wonder
But Jenny drew my charges and filled them up with water
Then sent to Captain Farrell to be ready for the slaughter

Chorus

It was early in the morning just before I rose to travel
Up comes a band of footmen and likewise Captain Farrell
I first produced my pistol for he stole away my rapier
I couldn’t shoot the water so a prisoner I was taken

Chorus

They put me into prison without a judge or writing
For robbing Captain Farrell on the far famed Kerry Mountain
But they couldn’t take me fists so I knocked the jailor down
And I said farewell to another jail in Limerick town

Chorus

There’s some that take delight in the carriages a rolling
Others take delight in the hurley and the bowling
But I take delight in the juice of the barley
And courtin’ pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early

Chorus

And if anyone can aid me it’s me brother in the army
If I could find his station in Cork or Killarney
And if he'll go with me we'll go roaming in Kilkenny
And I’m sure he’ll treat me better than my only sporting Jenny
