Some good things about our Presidential candidates

With all the bashing of many of the candidates (which is normal - after all, it is primary season), I thought it would be nice to take a moment to shed some positive light on each of them.

Joe Biden, though not yet a candidate, can run on 30 years of Senate experience. He is the top Democrat (and former Chairman) of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Wesley Clark, though not yet a candidate either, is a retired general who served in Vietnam (winning several medals, including the Purple Heart). He led NATO’s Allied Forces in Kosovo.

Under Howard Dean, 92% of Vermonters (including 99% under 18 years young) have health insurance; that’s better than the national average. And, when he left office, Vermont had a $10 million surplus and a 3.7% unemployment rate. As a candidate, he is very energetic.

John Edwards is a young man with a lot of good ideas. He lives in North Carolina, a state which, despite Republican leanings, is trending Democratic.

Dick Gephardt has been a powerful fighter for working people – who make up much of the heart and soul of the Democratic Party. In addition, he is from the important swing state of Missouri.

Bob Graham could help us win Florida. (I don’t care what that poll says – it’s early!) He has over 35 years of political experience in the Florida Legislature, as Governor, and in the Senate. Some of that experience has been as former Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and a Co-Chair of the September 11 Commission.

John Kerry served his country in Vietnam, even though he didn’t like that war. He, like General Clark, was decorated. Also, he has good plans to improve healthcare and the economy.

Dennis Kucinich has outstanding ideas (Department of Peace, for example), and he speaks VERY passionately. Just see him speak and you’ll know what I’m saying!

Joe Lieberman won the Vice Presidency of the United States in 2000! Or he would have, anyway. In his more than three decades of experience, he has been a fighter for the environment and against corporate crime.

Carol Moseley Braun has been a pioneer among women in recent years. She was the only black woman to ever have served in the Senate. She has championed such things as diversity in communities and rebuilding crumbling schools.

Rev. Al Sharpton is another great speaker. He energizes crowds wherever he goes. He also has a good sense of humor.

So, there’s something good about all eleven of them. Please feel free to add your own positive thoughts! After all, this is a very incomplete list; these are only samplings of what’s good about them. Keep it positive, though: if you have something negative to say, say it on another thread. There are plenty of other threads on which you can bash candidates; this is not one of them.

Individually, each of them have their own positive aspects. And, when one thinks about it, that's more than one could say for Bush.
