Gun charges dropped against neurosurgeon (but small trucking owner gets 5 years)

The Monterey County District Attorney's Office has decided not to file charges against a Monterey-area neurosurgeon arrested for allegedly brandishing a gun at his teenage son during a fight with his wife.

The announcement came the same day a Salinas business owner was sentenced to five years in prison for brandishing a firearm during a family fight.

Attorney Tom Worthington has been retained by both men, but said "the facts of the two cases are vastly different."

Sheriff's deputies arrested neurosurgeon Dr. Christopher Carver, 59, at his home May 9 on suspicion of child endangerment and weapons charges and booked him into county jail.
