A special plea for unity in the gun dungeon
Advertisements [?]
I would like to take this opportunity, in the spirit of Unity to reach out to my fellow gun dungeon posters, with the intention of finding common ground on political issues, as we continue into this new year. We all know that many of us in the gun dungeon disagree vehemently on certain issues related to gun availability in this country. We've argued with each other, insulted each other, called each other names, and gained NOTHING. For my own part in these fruitless discussions, I offer my sincerest apologies.
In the spirit of Democratic unity, it is best that we put these divisive issues aside, and seek common ground as we discuss the many issues upon which we can fully agree.
In the spirit of unity, I am reaching out to all of you in the gun dungeon, especially those I have derided as "gun nuts" and "right-wingers".

As loyal dedicated members of the Democratic party, surely we can find many issues to agree upon. Let us do so, and move forward.
I invite all of you to join me in the many other forums at Democratic Underground, as we exercise our newfound unity:

Join me in the economics forum, where we can fight for economic justice for Americans that are left-behind by the economic policies of the right-wingers. Help me fight for a progressive tax structure that doesn't make working Americans choose between paying taxes, and paying for life's necessities.

Join me in the education forum, as we fight the right-wing's attacks on our public education system. Help us fight to subsidize higher education, and make it available to more working Americans.

Join me in the foreign affairs & defense forum, where we can fight against the terrible policies of George W. Bush. Help me fight to get our troops the body armor, vehicle armor, and the bullets they need to complete their mission. Helps me also fight to be sure that those same troops are only sent into harm's way, when it is absolutely necessary, and when their target presents an actual threat the the USA.

Join me in the health care forum, as we follow our Lord's command to "annoint the wounds of the afflicted". Help me fight to extend health insurance and coverage to America's poorest citizens. Surely, none of us is prepared to meet out Maker and declare that we thought gun ownership was more important that health coverage for human beings?

Join me in the poverty & economic development forum, where we can fight to bring America's working families further out of poverty. Help me fight to save the programs such as welfare, medicare, medicaid, and social security which do so much to keep Americans OUT of poverty.

Join me in the environment & energy forum where we can fight to see that George Bush's corporate friends aren't allowed to rape the landscape. Fight to ensure that our air, water, and land remain clean. Fight to help clean up, that which is already dirty. Help fight to ensure that George Bush doesn't start planting oil wells in the middle of our streams, farms, and forests.

Join me in the justice forum, to help insure that we actually have a justice system in this country. Help fight to return the SCOTUS to the people. Help fight to ensure that we have a Judiciary that is dedicated to helping people, and not corporations.

Join me in the media forum, as we fight agains the propoganda machine that the right wingers have built in what used to be America's journalism industry. Help fight to restore the oversight powers of the press, that used to check governmental tyranny. Obviously private gun ownership didn't prevent the tyranny of George W. Bush, but I'm sure that if we had a free press, then it would shed light on so many of the evil things that he does.

I eagerly await the gun dungeon posters joining me in these other forums to help me fight for Democratic principles.
