Gun-data remarks exasperate Tiahrt (The Wichita Eagle, Kansas)
Associated Press
WASHINGTON - Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, criticized U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Friday for telling Congress the Obama administration may try to relax some limits on sharing gun-trace data.

Tiahrt issued a statement saying Holder "should read the Tiahrt amendment before giving any further misleading comments about it."

Among other things, the law prohibits the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from disclosing gun-trace data to the public and requires that certain records submitted to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System be destroyed after 24 hours.

"Just as we protect the privacy of medical and financial records, we should also protect the privacy of law-abiding citizens who exercise their Second Amendment right to own a firearm," he said.
