2. It's not their problem.
Being a gun owner doesn't make one a crime fighter any more than having a spandex suit and a red cape. What it does for you is gives you the option of fighting back when your life is threatened. We've had a rash of home invasions lately. They target old folks and people with terminal illnesses, looking for oxycontin or other pain killers. Several of these home invaders got shot during their encounters with their intended victims. I don't look for the local addict population to quit robbing and stealing any time soon in spite of the obvious risk to their health from engaging in such activities.
