Quick review here Abbas and his party Fatah were elected to lead both Gaza and the West Bank and Hamas won a majority of the seats in the Palestinian Parliament that governed again both Gaza and the West Bank How Hamas came to be the ruling party in Gaza is that there was a power coup between Hamas and and the American armed and trained {under Bush at the time) Fatah in Gaza and Fatah lost, the details of this are in dispute but the basic fact is that the people of Gaza did not elect Hamas to rule them
