A Note to Dean Supporters...

I sympathize with your candidate's recent campaign troubles. My man Kerry was in a similar position 2 months ago - with sagging poll numbers and a staff shakeup. He was all but written off by the media even before the changes in his campaign were made. Dean was flying high and his crash has been swift and decisive. I believe he will remain in this for a while longer and, if for no other reason, hostory would favor him as the only one besides Kerry who still has a shot at the nomination. (Remember, history tells us you must be in the top 3 in IA and the top 2 in NH to have a shot at the nomination.) I have no doubt Dean will make some kind of comeback by parlaying his grassroots/Gore support into close seconds or a victory in one or more of the February states.

However, and this is a big however, we here on DU have been debating/flaming the merits of these candidates for months and we see the writing on the wall. The voters in Iowa and NH have spoken and they want to elect a Democrat who they think is best against Bush. They want John Kerry. Some of you have known me as a ruthless critic of Dean's and then a recent convert to his cause before going with my heart and relishing Kerry's recent comeback. If there were ever a moment to rally early and decisively behind a presumptive frontrunner, now is the time. Let's surprise the Repukes who hope Dean's troubles will bring about a brokered convention or an exteneded primary contest. The time is now. Join the Kerry campaign and work your heart out for the Democrats' best hope to beat Bush.

For those still unconvinced, try thinking of it this way. The Repukes have made clear their intention to make Kerry's "liberal voting record" the issue, along with his close association with Ted Kennedy. This is a great victory for us Dems because it shows that Kerry has effectively neautralized the Bush team's previous plan of running this election on national security. A fight on domestic policy is a fight we Dems are sure to win. You can do your part by joining John Kerry now. There is not a second to lose.
