I wanted to post this a couple days ago, but I got into a bummer of an accident (don't worry.. it wasn't my fault!!)

Anyway.. with foot in cast, I made it down the steps and just had to pass this on (and I'll post the article on the elections section as well)

The Anchorage Daily News reported 2 days ago that ----(are you ready for this)..???

---> Out of the 292,267 votes tabulated for Bush... 101,378 VOTES DID NOT GO TO HIM!!

Anchorage Daily News requires a quick freebie registration (I think?), but here's the jest of the article found @ http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/7301446p-7213196c.html

LONG GONE ELECTION: Tabulation method, reliability of machines are doubted.

By LISA DEMER
Anchorage Daily News
Published: December 20, 2005

"The official vote results from the 2004 general election are riddled with mistakes and discrepancies, are impossible for the public to make sense of, and should be corrected as soon as possible, the Alaska Democratic Party says."

~ snip ~

"For instance, when district-by-district vote counts are totaled, President Bush received 292,267 votes, according to an analysis by the Democrats. But his official total was 190,889, a difference of more than 100,000 votes, according to the state Web site."

~ snip ~

"The Democrats are raising questions just as Diebold Election Systems Inc., the controversial company that provides the state's electronic voting machines, comes under new fire, according to published reports. Two groups of investors have sued the parent company, Diebold Inc., accusing it of trying to conceal problems with its voting machines."

"Efforts to speak with a Diebold company representative late Monday were unsuccessful"

And how about this for some of the LOCAL races...

"In addition, more than 200 percent of the registered voters in some districts cast ballots, which should be impossible."

~~~
The GOOD news is that while Alaska uses a Diebold Accuvote Scanner, we also use a paper ballot filled out by each voter so we have an actual system in place if recounts are required. Not a receipt, an actual paper ballot.
The investigation should reveal some interesting results ... They haven't mentioned yet if they'll also investigate the U.S. Senate race. In that race, Democrat Tony Knowles was ahead in every single poll ever taken for 12 straight months, and yet Lisa Murkowski wound up winning by a pretty big margin.
We'll see!
In any event.. even in the Land of the Midnight Sun... the Last Frontier... the Great White North... DIEBOLD has reared it's ugly head.
