Running for Cabinet positions?

The view is often expressed on DU that one candidate or another would make an excellent choice for a position in someone else's cabinet, or that some presidential candidates who seemingly don't a chance of being nominated are really running for cabinet positions. However... how often do presidents bring their former rivals into their administrations? Lincoln, of course, is famous for doing so. Wilson named the oft-defeated William Jennings Bryan his Secretary of State. But I'm at a loss for other, more recent examples. Thoughts, anyone?

On edit: Vice president is another matter. Rivals are often chosen for the Number Two slot for one reason or another, and then frequently ignored for the next four to eight years.
