That's how it works, IMO, i.e., personal interest. Consider that editorial in the Scaife newspaper - Republicans understand that the direction which has been pursued by Bush/Cheney is making the world less stable, and as a result, the price of oil is rising, and will continue to rise, since, duh, where does oil come from. Those higher oil prices will lead to lower profits and lower incomes.
