It's really rather simple, or complicated, depending on how you look at it. I figured it out while I was talking to an old friend of mine today. I don't see him very often, and I know he was raised in a very Republican family so I asked him what he thought of Bush's troubles. He calmly said that we were ought to destroy Bush and we wouldn't stop until we were done.
I said, "Well, yeah."
And he said, "since when did you liberals get so damn aggressive. We're the ones supposed to be attacking you, not the other way around."
And that my friends is what's driving them nuts. For 10 years they sat back and bitched and moaned and attacked Bill Clinton. Before that they were bashing liberalism, and tree-huggers, and hippies, and "Welfare Queens." Attack attack attack is all they ever did.
Carter sat back and smiled. He lost. Mondale sat back and smiled. He lost. Dukakis put us all to sleep while smiling. He lost. Finally Carville caught on and went on the offensive. We won. Bob Dole ran against Clinton in 96 so that doesn't count. Bush attacked, Gore whimpered.
The moral is this, when we are on the offensive we win. And they know we've got a TON of ammo so they're desperate and they're bewildered.
Attack!
