TBO blog Tampa BayLast Friday, Sen. Bill Nelson and Rep. Alcee Hastings of Miramar warned Democratic national chief Howard Dean and other party officials to reconsider their sanctions against Florida Democrats for the state having moved its presidential primary to Jan. 29, against party rules. The two Democrats wrote that “for the sake of the National Democratic Party, we respectfully request that you lift the sanctions against Florida by close of business on Monday … doing so may help avoid a legal challenge based on voter rights versus political party rules.”
Well, the close of business today has arrived. And there’s been no word from the Democratic National Committee, says Nelson’s spokesman Bryan Gulley. What now?
“The goal is to make sure Florida’s vote counts,” said Nelson, in a statement released by his office.
“We’re keeping all options on the table to achieve this goal,” he said.
Asked what this means, Gulley added: “They (the DNC) did not respond, so that is our response.”
“The statement speaks for itself,” he said.
Our response is that they did not respond? Okay.
