There are three primary reasons (no pun intended).
1) Democratic voters feel she has the most experience and would be ready to govern from day one. It's true she was a team player, along with Bill Clinton, in the Clinton White House. She knows the ins and outs of how the Presidency works on a day to day basis, and how to be an effective President. She would have very little of a "learning curve" from her first day in office. This is especially important in given current international events, and events we cannot foresee. Also, she has many connections from the Bill Clinton Presidency and would be able to bring in an effective team right away. A team that already in many cases will have had experience working together successfully. And, she knows many prominent world leaders. She would be respected as a world leader right away. The international community has good memories of the Clinton years.
2) Democratic voters feel she is best equipped to mount a winning campaign capable of defeating the Republican nominee. They have concluded this based on the hard evidence of years she has spent fending off attacks from the right. She's an experienced politician, and of all the nominees, least likely to make a serious error leading to a loss in November.
3) Folks just plain like her. They respect her tenacity and ability to gain the respect of Republicans, as she has done in her home state of New York. Democratc voters feel she is the candidate most able to work with the Congress to achieve Democratic legislative goals, such as Health Care reform. She has the experience, and she has the know-how.
She'll be a great President
