How is Lieberman's endorsement of McCain different from Biden endorsement of McCain as Kerry's VP?

Biden's statements on "Hardball" on March 16, 2004:

"I think that this is time for unity in this country, and maybe it is time to have a guy like John McCain � a Republican � on the ticket with a guy he {Kerry} does like. They do get along. And they don't have fundamental disagreements on major policies."

How can Biden supporters get all uptight about Lieberman endorsing McCain when Biden endorsed McCain as Kerry's potential running mate?
