Here in California, the delegates to the convention are distributed
proportional to the number of votes.

The more votes he gets, the more delegates he receives.
The more delegates he receives, the louder his voice is at the convetion,
and hopefully, some of his ideas will be included in the democratic platform.
If he has enough delegates to keep Clinton or Obama from winning the nomimation,
then he becomes a power broker, and his voice get really loud at the convention.

I think you need at least 15% of the vote to start receiving delegate in CA.
He already has quite a number of votes from early voting (i.e. absentee/mail),
before he suspended his campaign.

So there you have it.
If you want to see some of Edwards ideas included in the Party Platform
he will need delegates. And the only way to get that is to vote for him.
