Obama does the same thing, but far more effectively. He has reached out to people who believe that gays can be cured, he has reached out to Republicans, he has reached out to religious conservatives, etc. He is doing what's necessary to win, but he's selling his soul in doing so. Is it worth it? Well, yes, I'd rather have Obama than McCain, and the fact that Obama is willing to sell his soul to get elected shows he prepared to do whatever is necessary to win. Only now that Obama is leading is he taking the high road, but prior to that he played low ball as much as anyone, just with greater subtlety and finesse.
