1. he was the first Jewish person on a national major party ticket
which was a big thing. there was a certain "broken barriers" thing to it. and it appealed not only to jews but almost all minorities except for arabs and muslims who voted for bush.

but gore's pick had more to do with lieberman's status as a "moral leader" since he was trying to get away from clinton.
