The model you invoke ---art versus craft -- is persuasive. In politics and elsewhere.

John Kennedy's address there in Berlin prompted me to visit the city some many years later. It was an overcast mid-morning. Not very many people milling about. A long echo from the day he spoke there to so many.

I sense the same thing in Obama and feel that McCain, despite being the media darling for so long on the talking head programs, is in for the thrashing of a lifetime. I think with Obama we carry states we haven't carried in ages.

And what a deeply good feeling it will be to look forward -- for a change -- to a State of the Union address.
