19. If you really want to do some good and not just let off steam

donate to Democratic Senatorial candidates in close races. A party in the minority in the House is just SOL, but in the Senate a minority party that still has 40+ votes can stop anything the majority wants to do, if they maintain party discipline.

The story of the next two years could well be how the Senate Republicans made the election of President Obama an empty victory.

Here is the list of our Senate candidates in toss up races:
Kay Hagan in North Carolina, who is running against the nasty Liddy Dole.
Mark Begich in Alaska, who is running against Ted build-my-house-for-free Stevens.
Ronnie Musgrove in Alabama, who is running against Roger Wicker, the jerk appointed to replace Trent Lott and who uses homophobia in his tv ads.
Jeff Merkley in Oregon, who is running against Gordon Smith.
Jim Martin in Georgia, who is running against Saxby Chambliss the asshole who said Vietnam vet triple amputee Max Cleland was insufficiently patriotic and probably an Al-Qaeda sympathizer.

You might also consider donating to Jean Shaheen who's running in New Hampshire against the odious John Sunnunu. She's favored to win, so it's not a toss up race.

Or you could donate to Bruce Lunsford in Kentucky who's running against Mitch McConnell. McConnell is favored to win, but there's always hope.

It's nice to slap at nuisance nutjobs like Michelle Bachmann by donating to her opponent, but she can't hurt you at all since she's in the minority party in the House and going to be even more powerless for the next two years. These Republican Senate candidates however, can and will hurt you, and they'll be doing all they can to derail President Obama.

I see I left out Al Franken. He's in a toss up race too. I worry though that people pick him first to donate to because he's a familiar face from tv. I donated to him second, after donating to my own state's Senate candidate for that reason. But Al's got plenty of his own money I would think and these other candidates are just as important.
