I've been fascinated and a little alarmed at the outpouring of songs inspired by Obama from professionals and amateurs. I grew up with anti-war songs from the folkies and from the rockers - from Joan Baez to Cosby, Nash, Stills & Young. I was always a little dubious about folk music, it seemed a little precious at times. In recent years, I've been disappointed that popular music seemed to ignore politics. Rap was angry, but it always seemed angry for the wrong reasons and at the wrong people. I worried at the Messianic flavor to some of the Obama songs, then realized that while he may have inspired the music, it's really all about us. I haven't heard lyrics about a health care plan or windpower, but that's part of what this is all about.

The music makes me laugh (I've got a crush on Obama) and it makes me cry. (This is My American Prayer). It's all good.
