...it's just a thought.

OK. OK. This stupidity that went through my mind was inspired by a real conversation I had with a conservative this weekend. He asked what I was reading. It was Thom Hartmann's "Cracking the Code", so I answered "Oh, nothing you would approve of. Just some subversive left-wing stuff to help me do a better job of screwing over my conservative friends." He laughed and replied "Well I guess somebody's got to pay all those taxes you guys raise." I went back to my book thinking, "that's fair. He can continue to be an ass so long as he pays for the privilege. Sort of like a tax on cigarettes, or any other vice."

Questions:

Who really does pay more in taxes? liberals or conservatives?

Are the battles over taxes really just about shifting the burden from liberals to conservatives, and vice versa?

Would you say that spouting conservative platitudes like "We live in the greatest country on earth.", and "Liberals are cut-and-run traitors." is merely a self-indulgence without direct victims? Is that like visiting a prostitute?
