3. "we have such high expectations of the American public"?
I've been convinced for years that the vaunted "American public" is embarrassingly stupid, and no amount of standardized testing will ever impart good sense. There are some remarkably "brilliant" folks who think Nixon shouldn't have resigned, that Bush One didn't know a Contra from a hole in the ground, that Reaganomics helped the economy, and that Dim Son is right about every damn thing.
On the contrary, I have very low expectations when it comes to the American public.
