35. what a coincidence
This morning I was on this same wave--ie. thinking of the connection between Andy's situation and the bigger health care crisis, and I come here and see that Thom Hartmann has written an excellent article hitting on so many of the points I was mentally coralling...
Thanks! for posting, NVMojo.

Hartmann really nails it with this one. This country is just plain BACKWARD not to address the hidden costs and ramifications of our current healthcare "system" (or lack of a coherent system). Investing in the health and well-being of the population is just common sense, and it is the job of the government.

At the cost of healthcare now, many Americans cannot afford to be sick, certainly not seriously sick. And even those who do have health insurance may suddenly be without it if a job or circumstances change, and as Hartmann points out, insurance coverage is often inadequate even for those who are paying, when a catastropic illness strikes. Should the nightmare of illness be accompanied by the nightmare of financial collapse and a herculean struggle to get treatment? Hartmann is right, in calling this situation "uncivilized."

Andy's one of the lucky ones to have us helping him. But how many people have a network of supporters who would do this? We need to pass the Hartmann article around and bring attention again to the sad state of healthcare access in America.
