2. This is what happened in 2002 and 2004 - the White House conmen had convinced
media outlets that they needed to be part of the war on terror. I think sending them the anthrax helped hurry that cooperation as it made the newsrooms scared, too.

So media set about making their president into a heroic figure, completely out of proportion to reality. That brought along the rank and file news reporters to take direction from their bosses, and not stray far off script.

They still have that mindset. That they help keep the country safe by keeping Bush's image burnished whenever he needs it so it scares other countries and terrorists. Hard to get out of that bunker mentality when you've been in it for so long.
