at least 23% of Independents plan to vote for Republicans:

CBS News/New York Times Poll. Oct. 27-31, 2006. N=598 likely voters nationwide. MoE ± 4 (for all likely voters).

"If the 2006 election for U.S. House of Representatives were being held today, would you vote for the Republican candidate or the Democratic candidate in your district?"

ALL likely voters
34% Republican
52% Democrat

Republicans
84% Republicans
6% Democrats

Democrats
3% Republicans
90% Democrats

Independents
23% Republicans
50% Democrats

This is also an indication that some Independents who plan to vote Republican, don't give a shit!
