The "polls " are manipulative...

If you lose, it doesn't matter if you lose by one vote or one-hundred thousand votes. You still lose. That's why it doesn't matter if the polls say you are 15% behind or 3% behind, as in the case of Harold Ford, Jr. He still loses if he doesn't get the votes.

However, the numerous polls manipulate people's emotions. The question is: Do they have an impact on turnout? If your candidate is 15% behind, are you more or less likely to vote for him tomorrow? If your Party is 10% behind, are you more likely to vote for your Party, because they are going to lose anyway? There are many ways that polls can manipulate. In my opinion, it is best to simply ignore them.
