Graham was making the point about going out and bringing the fight to terrorists, not sitting back and waiting for them to hit us. As a metaphor, he told what he acknowledged was a "politically incorrect" story about Florida and the Indian wars. He first asked why are there so many places in Florida called "Fort" something or other. Answer: because there were a lot of forts erected to fight the Seminoles. He pointed out that Fort Lauderdale was burned down twice...and then the army changed plans and left the forts, taking the fight to the Indians. "Within 24 months, the Indians were defeated...and a lot of good things followed after that."

Now, we all know what he was trying to say. But he should have prefaced his story by saying something along the lines of "setting aside the right or wrong of history, and intending no comparison between 21st century terrorists and indigenous American Indians" before he told his tale.

I get it. You get it. But the Rs will turn this into a slur on Indians. Trust me.
