48. The best place to study is your own skin. Honestly, I never used
any internet sites (I have found the internet too scary to explore when you have cancer). What to look for are moles that are not perfectly round or are multi colored. Mine developed on my arm and it was shaped like a crescent moon. Then a couple of months later a pink color formed inside the crescent moon. It looked strange, so I went to the doctor, and he removed it. He thought it would be nothing, but it was Stage 1 Melanoma.

The point is you need to get skin checks. Once a year, or if you've had problems in the past twice a year. And keep an eye on your skin. Look for new moles and make sure they are nicely round and brown.

BTW, part of the reason why I went in to get mine checked, was I had just read a McCain article in the New Yorker where it talked about his Melanoma at length. So, you know, I'll never hate the guy.
