I've had a similar situation in my immediate family. But at least the young couple were able to come to a decision on their own without the glaring spotlight of world-wide media focused on them. And at least they weren't coerced into doing what others felt was the right thing. I did offer to pay for an abortion, but when they decided to continue the pregnancy I didn't force the issue.

And they weren't subjected to lectures about their immoral behavior. They may have had to listen to me mutter "How could anyone be so monumentally boneheaded as to have unprotected sex!" under my breath, but I made it clear their behavior was ill-considered but not sinful.

I have a grandchild somewhere in the world that I haven't seen since he was a few hours old. But at least I had the decency not to run for public office while he was still in utero.

Bristol doesn't have that luxury.
