Rule #1 in the media

Tragedy = Great entertainment, will keep viewers watching

Happy stories = generally boring, only good as 'filler' between the tragedy stories so it's not all tragedy news, ignore most of these happy stories or the viewers will get bored

Much as you might think it's a tragedy for a mother to work 2 jobs to feed her kids, it's not to the media. To the media tragedy is someone dying or getting seriously injured, or something outrageous happening like people getting scammed.
