Here is an e-mail I sent to Jim Traber on WKY am Radio in Oklahoma City. Jim and I talk on his show almost daily. Sometimes we yell at each other, sometimes we are nice. I hope that some information gets out to his audience they may not otherwise hear. He will probably cover some of this in his show tomorrow, if he doesn't I will call him and do it. If you are in OKC listen between 9:00 and 11:00.
Here it is:
Which whacko left wing peaceniks are saying things like this?
1. “This is far graver than Vietnam. There wasn't as much at stake strategically, though in both cases we mindlessly went ahead with the war that was not constructive for US aims. But now we're in a region far more volatile, and we're in much worse shape with our allies."
Or this:
2. "I see no ray of light on the horizon at all. The worst case has become true. There's no analogy whatsoever between the situation in Iraq and the advantages we had after the Second World War in Germany and Japan."
Or this:
3. "The idea that this is going to go the way these guys planned is ludicrous. There are no good options. We're conducting a campaign as though it were being conducted in Iowa, no sense of the realities on the ground. It's so unrealistic for anyone who knows that part of the world. The priorities are just all wrong."
Here are the answers:
Retired General William Odom, former head of the National Security Agency.
Jeffrey Record, professor of strategy at the Air War College.
Retired General Joseph Hoare, the former marine commandant and head of US Central Command.
The war and occupation of Iraq is going to hell and it is going to get much worse. A classified document that was leaked on Thursday shows that the most optimistic estimate for Iraq is the continuation of things as they are now. The worst case scenario is full scale civil war. Bush is lying to the American people when he says things are going better in Iraq. He is lying. Our soldiers continue to die at the rate of 2 per day (3 per day this month). Civilian deaths and casualties are skyrocketing. This month is on par to be one of the worst for US soldier deaths. We have lost 51 brave young men so far in September and we are barely halfway through the month but you won’t hear about that in the “liberal media”.
Bush screwed up. He took us to war under false pretenses and we are now involved in a long term grinding guerilla war that will continue to maim and kill our soldiers, alienate the people of Iraq and burn through our treasury. It was a mistake and Bush is solely responsible for it. That is, if he took responsibility for anything that happens on his watch.
I have heard many talk show hosts say they want to move on and talk about issues. If they do, Bush will lose. The issues that are important to the people of this country are Iraq and the economy. The war in Iraq is going terribly, no way to spin that. The economy can be spun to point out some good things but the fact remains that under this President we have lost more jobs, put more people in poverty, have fewer insured and reduced the income of Americans.
Please talk about the issues Jim. Nothing would help John Kerry more.
Love the show.
