The national repukes know Obama is already elected, and that any smears by Keyes will backfire big time in Illinois.

But the smears will be reported by the national media, and in places where Obama is less well know they may stick in the back of folks minds.

Where they will fester and be nurtured by the rabid right until Barack eventually makes a national bid.

The Rovians are looking way down the road and trying to poison the waters for Obama in '12 or '16.
