whose website is www.dauphineorleans.com. Why don't you book a room there for Thursday night??? Or better yet, for Wed and Thurs nites? I don't think you should drive back to Shreveport from N.O. at night, very tired, by yourself. I think there are some cheaper hotels mentioned in your original informational post, and there will be plenty of protestors staying at those. There are even some less expensive hotels in Metarie, on the outskirts of New Orleans proper, where you could stay and catch a taxi into the French Quarter and back.

I travel to Mexico and Las Vegas and Washington DC all the time by myself, and had to get over the idea of being afraid to travel by myself. Now, I prefer it that way!

BTW, for any of you single female DUers, looking for a place to really hang out and relax, and meet many other singles, my "place" in Mexico is Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancun. I just fly into Cancun, catch a ferry to the island, and am in heaven. Many Americans and Europeans are constantly on the island...it is cheap, and just paradise for a laid-back old hippie chick like myself. It is extremely safe and a great place to meet others from everywhere. I made some of my very best friendships by meeting other libruls there!
